Latvian mitten heritage is a centuries-old tradition where mittens serve as symbols of identity, warmth, and spiritual meaning, with intricate, nature-inspired patterns. These symbolic, knitted garments are also given as gifts, especially for important occasions like weddings, and are an integral part of Latvian folk culture and national identity. Latvian manor history involves centuries of Baltic German nobility, the establishment of manors as economic centers, and their transformation after Latvia's 1920s agrarian reform, during which many were nationalized and repurposed into schools or other community buildings. During this knitting tour we will stay in three manor houses in Latvia, which are turned into elegant hotels. In this beautiful and inspiring environment we will learn how to knit Latvian style mittens taught by Baiba Pilāne. We will also visit the grand Rundale Palace, some wool mills and craft shops. Have half a day trips to Sigulda, Bauska, Jaunpils and Kuldiga.
