#079: Finely Hand Knitted Gloves for Ladies in Rapla Style with Bean Leaf Pattern

92.00

Knitted with three colored (red, purple and yellow) yarn in traditional Estonian fair-isle style. Tightly knitted using 0-size needles and DK weight yarn. All the yarns are hand dyed, 100% wool from Estonia. They are perfect to block wind and wear in winter.

This pattern comes from Rapla area in Rapla County, ESTONIA. This pattern is called a Bean Leaf Pattern and is widely used in Estonia.

The cuffs are quite extraordinary, as I learned that style in Latvia, when participating in a Latvian Knitting Camp in April this year. You could read more about that camp here: http://kagukudujad.blogspot.com.ee/2016/05/lati-kudumislaager-kindad-kurzeme.html
But I also remembered that I had seen this style before. I looked it up and there actually is a pair of gloves in Estonian National Museum, under the code 18523, with the same cuff. Small world, especially when we are living close with our good neighbors.

The gloves are color-worked all the way to the fingertips, which makes them warmer than average thin one-layer gloves. The yarn being rather thin makes them very comfortable to wear and they fit like a second skin.

Women’s size.
